In the books Maud was Betsy Ray, her friends, Bick Kenney was Tacy Kelly and Midge Gerlach was Tib Muller. In the 1940's she started writing about her early years in Mankato in the semi-autobiographical Betsy-Tacy series. Ms Lovelace developed an interest in writing and shortly became a well known author.
